Sony’s new copy protection is so secure - you can’t watch the movie

April 15, 2007 by: admin

While we are all in favor of security, these folks over here at Amazon and blogger SonyStrikesAgain (remember the copy protected CD’s from December 2005?) are reporting issues with the new versions of disks coming from Sony that will not play in some players.

Sony Tech: We know about this problem. Its our new copy protection that’s making these discs unplayable in some players including our own, we do not intend to change the copy protection. The only correction to this problem is a firmware update to your player. The electronics division know about this and should have given you this information. Source SonyStrikesAgain

SonyStrikesAgain is a single entry blog, so confirmation from the March 19th entry would be great so we can verify the story. While the Amazon thread has been busy from March 3rd through April 4th, we believe the story of bad DRM to be true, but need confirmation of what sony tech support is claiming.

This is also being reported via Slashdot

We would be really interested in hearing how many people are impacted by this issue and what Sony Tech Support has to say. Send us an e-mail at or leave a comment below.
