FF VII On Second Life

Depending on whom you listen to, and not that it really matters, this is hard-core fandom at its most basic, some intrepid folks have made a FFVII like spot in Second Life. After going through the screen shots, it is hard to tell the difference between the game Final Fantasy Seven (VII) and the system it runs in, second life. Depending on how Square Soft feels about this, will determine how long it will live. Lets hope that Square has a sense of humor and allows this section of second life to live.

Onder Skall reviews some of the Grid’s most intriguing games. With the constant threat of fanfic lawsuits and DMCA takedown notices, it’s a wonder anybody dares show appreciation for anything anymore. Still, there are those among us who remember one of the best RPGs ever created, Final Fantasy VII (by Square Co Ltd), and dare to dream about it. Source: New World Notes

Since we have been playing Final Fantasy since the Nintendo 64 days, and had the original Final Fantasy One through Three for the Nintendo hand held, Gameboy, as well as currently playing FF III on the Gameboy advanced, you could say that we here have a history with Final Fantasy. Of course this is going to catch our attention, a video game we love nested into a video game we really have not played with yet.

Of all the things that are going to grab our attention is that while no one knows for sure if Square said this was ok or not, the biggest hope is that they will eventually not sue the ever loving existence of this puppy off the face of the planet. Square has always had a good relationship with its fan sites, and has generally understood that gamers can be fanatics, and when they really love something, they form the hard-core group that all other games by the company will be pre-sold to. Gamers are a unique community, especially when they identify personally with the game.

So you have some folks that want to live in that game so badly, that they made another way for them to do so. Based on the screen caps, it looks really cool, and something that people can have some fun in. We will have to see how it goes though, and personally, we hope it survives long enough for us to find the time to go visit.
