Google chants developers developers developers

ZDNet is talking about why Google loves developers, all they need now is a person to dance around the stage screaming “Developers, Developers, Developers, Developers” until the audience goes mad. If Mr. Brinn starts pacing a stage somewhere doing the developers chat, its time to sell your Google stock and find someplace else to invest.

Google Developer Days are about to start, where Google courts a number of developers to take on worthy projects from across the internet. One of the interesting things that Google has released this week is Google Gears, allowing for both on line and off line access to material.

In conjunction with the conference, the company on Wednesday announced Google Gears, a Web browser plug-in that allows Web developers to add offline access to Web applications. Google Gears is part of the company’s strategy to court developers in order to make Web applications more capable–a goal that it is taking substantial steps to achieve, particularly for a company whose primary business is online search. Google Developer Days are fairly interesting to watch, although most of what comes out of it does not see the light of day, while others do some real interesting things that we do see. Depending on the coverage that the press gives those products we will have to wait and see what the developer boffins come up with, and what influence they will have on our use of the internet.

What is great about this is that it is a direct play out of the playbook for developing an independent ecosystem around 3rd party developers using Google tools, API’s and data sets to come up with interesting cool stuff. With the advent this year of good tools like Apollo and Silverlight to bring hybrid applications to the table, those that use both on line and off line capabilities (Check out the Digg Contest) there should be some stuff like Google Gears that adds to the experience of using your Google Brain to do work.

Should be fun to see what comes out of Google Developer Days. Everyone should check out Google Gears though, it sounds like it could be interesting.
