Startup Search
A great new project has started up, not surprisingly enough called “Startup Search” in that you can search out companies that are new startups as a database system to find things that might interest you. The brain child of Niall Kennedy, he announced it on his blog, and gave a link to his new site.
Startup Search tracks Web startups, their products, key employees, investment firms, and investment partners. Startup Search also tracks the success of each product since it was first introduced to the world, using publicly available metrics pulled into a single page. It’s a research tool, a discovery engine, and a fact-filled directory of our little Web startup world. I’ll walk through a few features. Source: Niall Kennedy Blog
The good thing about this is that anyone who wants to go in search of startups now has a place to start. The other good part is that if you are a startup you now have a place to add your data that is very target specific. In that you are looking for a particular company.
This site has multiple uses, if you are in search of a job and want to work in a startup, then this is a great place to learn about companies you may want to work for. What they do, who the important people are, and a host of other information so that you can do your homework and learn about the company.
If you are another startup that services startups, say a security company that specializes in Web 2.0 security (and there are some), then this is the place to go hunting for clients and let them know about you. As well, you can make your own startup entry here and use it for letting people know you exist.
This is great for VC’s and other people who fund companies from angel on through to the big pay day to see if there is any buzz around the company you are thinking of funding. This would be part of the homework process for funding a company.
If you are curious about the competition for your great idea, see who is already doing what you are thinking of doing, then you need to come to the site to check it out and see what is happening in the field already.
Multiple uses here, not just a one trick pony, but a way to gain valuable information about companies, people, personality and buzz. Moreover, the data is all in one spot.
Ok, this seems like a really good startup about startups, and this is one of those sites that we hope has a nice long run.
