The porn industry catches up with Web 2.0 in a big way, with more than a dozen social networking sites dedicated to porn. Earlier we asked if porn could do Web 2.0, and with the advent of social networking, it looks like the answer is an unqualified Yes.
What strikes us as interesting about this is that the Adult industry is having problems with many of the ways that people obtain and consume porn on the internet. The NY Times reports that:
The online availability of free or low-cost photos and videos has begun to take a fierce toll on sales of X-rated DVDs. Inexpensive digital technology has paved the way for aspiring amateur pornographers, who are flooding the market, while everyone in the industry is giving away more material to lure paying customers. Given sites like PornoTube and others, the list has dramatically expanded to include other types of social networking sites. Like Porno Book marking that is a Pligg based Vote your own happy porno news aka Digg, or Social Smut (also Pligg based), and many more.
The competition in the social porno web space now encompasses about a twenty sites. They are:
Wtilot.com
18-19porn.com
Ozzlefung.com
Adulse.com
Pornogg.com
Socialporn.com
Pornbookmarking.com
Allfluff.com
Adultdigg.com
Linkfap.com
Splutr.com
Socialsmut.com
Jizzytissue.co.uk
Theblackgallery.com/porn-share
Adultdugger.com
Smuthunting.com
Xxxsocial.com
Porndiggity.com
Porn.blosker.com
Voteboob.com
More and more mainstream, as well as geared towards people who find and post the material, some of it is legit, most of it is advertising, all of it is basically free. And that is what is influencing the Porno Industry, much like the music and movie industry, Porno is going to either embrace or loath the new social marketing model. With social book marking here to stay.
