Did not see this one coming, but Read Write Web and Alt Search Engines is asking people to forgo using MSN, Yahoo, Google, or others for one day to give alternative search engines a try. Something tells us, this won’t work that well, but hey, it is worth a shot and giving bloggers something to talk about this morning.
I know. I know. It’s okay. I know. Breathe… We at AltSearchEngines are actually asking everyone to go one day (6 am - midnight), this Tuesday, without using one of the major search engines; Google, Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, or Ask. Instead, try one of the alt search engines. The list of the most recent Top 100 is here. Then on Wednesday, please leave a detailed comment describing how it went, and share your experience with other readers. Source: AltSearchEngines.com
It is a great idea, and yes you know that we say this a lot about a many things. We just do not think it will happen. Could you imagine people not using Google for a day? We might see people suffering withdrawal pains as they fight with some other search engine to find anything. Chaos would reign in the streets and people suddenly find themselves with search results that do not match or come close to what people are looking for.
Although if you are going to use an alternative search engine, we highly recommend Ms. Dewey, probably one of the funniest search engines out there. Make sure you search on Rap, country music, and other fun things.
The contest happens on 12 June 2007, that is tomorrow, give it a shot, see what happens. We will probably use Ms. Dewey, but then we also know that no work will be getting done because we will be gathered around a computer laughing and making recommendations on what to search for next.
