TechCrunch, Mark Evans, Myblog and Forever geek are all reporting that Alexa is useless, that is pretty much so a given in the SEO world. While it provides an amusing insight into what people who use the Alexa tool bar go out to see, as a method for figuring out what the value of a site is, well it has been useless for a while.
We don’t know why this is news, but everyone seems to be latching onto the concept. There are much better ways of figuring out how useful your web site actually is. While Alexa is a concept, they also make no bones about it, they say it is not anything other than what Alexa tool bar users go to see.
A phrase from the past, at least we are all equally handicapped when it comes to Alexa, and they do not do Linux visitors (who are 2 or 3 percent of our traffic), and they do not do a whole lot of other things along the way.
While Alexa is fun, there are better systems out there, like bloginfluence, but even Technorati has lost its ability to accurately track a blog’s value or worth. Icerockets tracker is interesting to use, but how they score is different, and multiple people can actually fill a number slot, like you might have hundreds of ranked 300 blogs.
Makes for an interesting argument on why people continue to use Alexa rank as a way to show a blogs value, but really the reason why is that in a world of inflated blog stats based on logs, Alexa at the very least is something that the site owner can not control. While it is a well known neutral 3rd party, we also know that it is a poor neutral 3rd party, but it is also all we have.
Everyone can move on now.

I always wonder why people become so preoccupied about their rank on such systems. The people who are popular aren’t wasting their time worrying about Alexa or PageRank, they are more interested in creating content and not in a proverbial pissing contest !
