The international language is porn

Ynetnews talked to Israeli porno web site owners to find out where people were coming from, and surprisingly enough, given the issues between Israel and the Arab world, 10% of all the web site hits to Israeli porn, is coming from Arab countries.

This has to have the Imams kind of ticked off.

According to site statistics, last month there were over 2,000 hits from Riad, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The average time a Saudi surfer spends on SexV is 17:23 minutes. Data also shows that 10 percent of the visitors to the most popular sex site in Israel, Domina, are Arabic speakers. “That is because we offer content in their language,” said Tzahi who operates the site. This also goes to show that no matter what level of censorship that is applied to countries, there is usually a way around it. Now why Arabs would be attracted to Israeli porn no one is going to get, although we would be interested in finding out why. This really does go to show though that no matter what population you have, or what breaks you put into the system to discourage behavior, the behavior is going to happen anyway.

People still get their hands chopped off, women still get stoned to death, and people still find a way to surf porn, no matter how restrictive the governments are, or how brutal the punishments for breaking the community social standards.

World Politics Review mid of 2006 was talking about how technology can break down barriers between societies, and had in specific mention that porn surfing citizens of restrictive countries might be part of the opening of minds. Now looking at it, yes you can laugh, really technology is doing three things here, breaking down barriers, showing that there are ways around censorship, and creating demand for sexy mossad ladies.

The interesting part, is porn really going to be the international language, and is that going to be enough to break down barriers to peace in the Middle East. Most people will agree that it was porn that made the VHS happen, that enabled many of the Web 1.0 web sites to survive including developing age gates, e-commerce, and a host of other technology that we use every day. Even Germany’s Telco’s are allowing porn to be downloaded to cell phones.

In 50 years, can we be able to state that is was porn that did more for Middle East peace than anything else?

Interesting idea.
