As part of our public service, we would like to sponsor a Memory Walk 2007 group in the Seattle area. While Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease, sponsoring Memory Walk will fund much needed research into the disease, and how it can be cured.
This is a great charity to get involved with, not just if you have a family member who has the disease, but if you are worried about getting the disease yourself. There is an added economic reason for sponsoring Memory walk, according to the Alzheimer’s Organization, real and indirect costs are expected to increase, and their numbers state:
The total worldwide cost of dementia care is estimated to be $315.4 billion annually, according to new data published in “An Estimate of the Total Worldwide Societal Costs of Dementia in 2005,” in the April 2007 issue of Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association. $315.4 billion is higher than the total budget of all but eight of the world’s countries. (According to the 2007 CIA World Factbook, only the U.S., Japan, Germany, France, U.K., Italy, China and Spain have 2007 budget expenditures greater that $315.4 billion.) Source: ALZ.org
As such, we went to the Memory Walk site and noticed that there are 3 groups in the area, but there was no way to know what name to surf for to sponsor a person or the group. Contact us at suggest at Techwag.com and we will help sponsor the first group to contact us.
If you want to help sponsor a group go here and sponsor a group. Even better is if you sign up for a team captain, just three teams in Seattle is pretty small given the size of the area. Remember to sign up early so you have enough time to build out your memory walk team.
If you want to join techwag in sponsoring this great cause, we highly encourage you to go visit the memory walk web site here.
Signing up is easy, finding teams in your local area is easy, finding a person to sponsor is not easy. So while some of it is difficult, overall it is worth the trouble to make this happen. Seattle in general is a very giving city, and you can use this as your good deed of the month by walking or sponsoring, or even being a team captain, and becoming a team captain is one of those things that is very simple, you can read the instructions here (opens PDF file). You should do what you feel comfortable doing.
This is a sponsored post, but well worth doing.
