Startup Schwag comes back to town

One of the best things about web 1.0 was all the Schwag that you could get just about anywhere. That is what made geekdom and fan boy fan girls rock all over the place, the number of t-shirts proudly proclaiming everything from pet food suppliers to people who deliver your groceries.

There was one attempt with Valley Schwag to do the same thing, but it died a quiet death as they could not scale. Too many people wanted the stuff, but the resources were limited, it costs to get this stuff, and the bigger the demand, the more outlay for startups that might want the exposure but do not have the money to print it all.

Now comes startup Schwag, and it is about time people. That is one thing that Web 2.0 has been missing sorely on, the walking billboards that are people, t-shirts, and the wearability of the logos.

We here at techwag will feel like we are in more of a revolution if we get some more schwag in our pockets.

Startup Schwag won’t be looking to startups to send them stuff to pass on to subscribers. Instead, Richards says they’ll be licensing logo rights from hot startups and creating the schwag themselves, at exactly the amount to fulfill demand. Source: Techcrunch

The good part is that by getting and licensing the logo’s, and then printing to scale up on demand (there is going to be a lot of pent up demand if valley Schwag was any indicator), they can run with what they have. Startups are not spending money they do not have to feed the ravenous fans with goodies and other stuff. This one might work. They state:

Startup Schwag™ is a surprise web2.0 startup tshirt of the month club. There may be more schwag (stickers, random chochkis) at some point, possibly even in the first shipment *wink-wink* but that’ll be another surprise. If there aren’t extra schwag items at some point, this is the part where I told you there may not always be extra schwag items at some point. Tshirts were the best part anyway. So, tshirts. Good to have this kind of service back, they take master card, visa and paypal (if you can get through to paypal this weekend. Noticed there were time out problems when we tried to use the site, might not work that well today.
