Be careful of that WiFi hot spot
Germany has issued a health warning about the dangers of Wi-Fi, saying that there has not been enough studies done on the potential health effects of “Electrosmog” that accompanies the use of Wi-Fi systems like cell phones, hot spots, and other technologies that allow people to go wireless.
They recommend sticking to land line.
The Environment Ministry recommended that people should keep their exposure to radiation from Wi-Fi “as low as possible” by choosing “conventional wired connections”. It added that it is “actively informing people about possibilities for reducing personal exposure”.
Its actions will provide vital support for Sir William Stewart, Britain’s official health protection watchdog, who has produced two reports calling for caution in using mobile phones and who has also called for a review of the use of Wi-Fi in schools. His warnings have so far been ignored by ministers and even played down by the Health Protection Agency, which he chairs. Source: Independent
The register has also reported on this but it is a condensed version of the independents article.
In all though it makes for some interesting environmentalism, and while there have not been enough studies done on the influences of Wi-Fi on people, early on people were saying it was Wi-Fi that was killing off bee’s, only to find out later it was a virus. And a whole host of other issues that looked like it could be Wi-Fi but ended up being something else.
Along with the studies on using cell phones and brain cancer.
So far none of the people who have made some really wild claims have been able to prove them. Looks good on paper, but not in reality. Germany does not need to pull back from technology and this could severely set the entire country back technologically.
