Seattle has one of the more interesting startup support groups, and they continually meet to discuss ways of getting information out to startups. While many issues beset startups, one of the biggest ones is how to get people to pay attention to what you are doing generate some buzz, and get the name out there.

This can be very difficult in a world of the internet where there are literally billions of pages, hundreds of thousands of companies, and many people, groups, and deep pocket folks who are doing exactly what you are doing. While gaming the search engines can get you banned, there are some very fundamental things that can be done to improve your search engine rankings.

Last Thursday I did a presentation at the Seattle Tech Startups meeting called, “Bootstrap Web Marketing: SEO, SMM, & Viral Marketing”. I spoke for about an hour and a half and was peppered with great questions throughout. For me, it was a valuable experience. Not only was it fun to chat about this stuff with a room full of smart people, but I think the act of presenting always makes me a helluva lot smarter about the topic. Source: rescue time

The presentation, and the follow conversation at Seattle tech startups was well worth seeing, and this slide show and blog entry are also well worth taking a look at. Many startups here in Seattle are in bootstrap, the house is leveraged, the credit cards maxed, mom, dad, the family have been all hit up for money. DIY SEO is something you can do as a startup, that might help get you more interest in what you are doing and the all-important interest in your web site where you present your grand idea to the world.

Some of the slide show is basic, these are things that many people know, but then lots of people didn’t know about that when we go teach a class on internet marketing. They tell a lot of information about tools and uses that you can use to better your keyword use.

They also go into social media marketing, how to use MySpace Facebook and others to help generate buzz about the product.

This is really a one of a kind resource for startups and people just generally interested in seeing some of the more interesting ideas about SEO, and how you can do it yourself until the product launches, life is good, and you can hire a professional to do this for you.
