Well, while this might be taking some folks by surprise, it looks like apple’s iphone debut in the UK last night was an absolute flop as far as reporters on the street were concerned. Dialaphone.co.uk has posted a number of pictures here that really show an amazing lack of crowds beating each other to get to the goods.
Here’s the chaotic scene at Carphone Warehouse in Wimbledon. (dialaphone)

While the register.co.uk states:
Apple may also take some comfort from the fact that it was raining, and that with a recession looming, the British have switched to paying for their mortgages on credit cards - so there’s not a lot of discretionary cash left over. Especially not imaginary discretionary cash - to spend on an imaginary event. The only people who should really be embarrassed are the newspapers and TV channels, who’d convinced themselves a world-shattering event was about to take place. Source: The Register
In all from the news, pictures, and everything else, it looks like the whole debut was a flop, which might be problematic for apple. The Iphone is not their only business, but with people in general thinking recession, on both the high end and low end of the sales figures. What is happening in the USA is going to be reflected across the pond as well.
Could be a long cold hard holiday sales season for all, which is what is going to make the whole business structure profit and loss all the more interesting this year.
