Valleywag has one of the best examples of why social networking can be an issue in the modern age, and why calling in sick and going somewhere is not an option anymore. This would have been much smarter if he had just taken a personal day, but no, he called in sick, went to a Halloween party, many pictures and booze ensued, and the boss found the pictures.
Being fired from the job is the least of the worries that Kevin Colvin faces at this point, because Google rarely ever forgets.
Kevin Colvin, an intern at Anglo Irish Bank’s North American arm, was busted when he told his manager, Paul Davis, that he’d miss work due to what colleagues took to be a “family emergency”. Davis turned up the photo above, freshly posted to Facebook from the Halloween party Colvin apparently missed work to attend, and attached it to his reply, copying the rest of the office as he did it. The email thread is now spreading around the net. After the jump, the entire exchange, and the incriminating photo. Source: Valleywag
This is where it gets interesting, not only has he been picked up via Valleywag, but the entire internet including Facebook, name, and picture of dude in fairy suit with beer is now everywhere. Name is everywhere, excuse, photographic evidence, figure the odds of the next person thinking of hiring the guy doing the old “Google name search” followed by the word busted, there are already 25,000+ files in Google already.
The picture is fun too.

The question is going to be is just how to overcome this sudden overexposure on the internet? As an intern, he is probably fired today (if anyone knows leave a comment), and going to be looking for a job.
This one is going to be tough, he might not get one, there is no way that any kind of DMCA is going to clean up the mess (although if Valleywag is annoyed that we took the picture we can take it down), reputation defender or other companies are going to have to do a lot of Google juice to suppress this one. The costs to clean up one fib to the boss, and picture extravaganza is probably, beyond his resources.

He is not fired and the company is retaining him. It was an office joke gone awry and I believe the company is VERY concerned with the possibility of a defamation lawsuit.
That is a really interesting thought on the idea of defamation of character, hadn’t thought of that one, this one is going to be a lot more interesting with that spin.
