We have gotten used to the continuing shortage of Wii consoles (and if anything is going to peak demand, it is keep the supply chain short and tight) for Christmas. Meaning not only more disappointed kids in 45 days, but families that will burn in shame because they can’t get junior, or grandma the Wii that they have been asking for.
The great thing about the Wii is that it appeals to all ages, and house found uses in places from old folks homes, to helping out with rehab in the VA. The demand for Wii has been huge, and with the continuing shortage of devices, it looks almost contrived at this point. No company would intentionally short change itself, but by keeping the supply side tight and short, Nintendo keeps the buzz going with the continual claims of a shortage of the devices, meaning interest, news, bloggers, and everyone else wants one of the cherished systems just for the gloating power alone.
A chronic shortage of Nintendo’s popular Wii console could mean disappointment for those putting it at the top of their Christmas list. The BBC has learned that high street retailers are struggling to keep up with demand for the console, which has been in short supply for months. Source: BBC
This makes for an interesting way of keeping buzz in the news, intentional or not, Wii and Nintendo are keeping the buzz alive by keeping up on the shortages. It is a popular console, with a lot of uses for all age groups, the shortages just keeps the buzz going, and parents on the street trying to find the kit for the kids and family.
