Open Web awards via Mashable

Mashable and a noted list of folks are sponsoring an “Open Web Awards” for startups. If you are working in the basement, or in a ycombinator, or any other form of startup situation, this might be the prize for you.

The whole thing is still in the digestion build out phase, but worth planning on, startups in Seattle should be thinking about making a good showing. With some 200+ startups in the area, someone has to work out how to get down there and show off the cool things we are doing as a startup community.

I am very pleased to announce that our humble Mashable Awards has grown thanks to a great response to our partnerships offer. The renamed Open Web Awards is an upcoming online contest for social websites supported, promoted and judged by more than twelve top blogs and blog networks…Who can win? Any company running a new social website, social network, collaborative site or web application. In other words: almost all the new applications on the web, and many of the established ones that have added a spot of Web 2.0 flavor. Source: Mashable

We are pretty excited about this, and the trend lately has been to launch a technology, and award prizes for the winners, from the XPrize, to Darpa, to Google, as well as various ways of supporting groups through things like Mashable is doing, being in technology, getting prizes and building something neat is an interesting way to go.

We do not remember anything comparable to this in the Web 1.0 dot com boom at all. Well worth investigating, well worth supporting if you can, and well worth attending or submitting your boffo web 2.0 application.
