The often-delayed American release of Battlestar Galactica season 3 has touched off a small war of words aimed right at the studio, Universal. While it was released in the UK in September, Americans are still unable to get it in DVD. They can download it for 1.99 a show from Amazon; people are starting to wonder what is happening here.

BSG season 3 is not available at ITunes; nothing Battlestar Galactica is available on ITunes, except for pod casts, some music, nothing that anyone would really want in the longer run, most of it is free. For those millions of IPod users, they will have to change the format from Amazon to Apple to watch the show on their IPod.

The most telling part of the issue are the comments that people have left on Amazon, the general population is fairly disgusted, and getting the UK version so that they can watch the show. Most of the comments are hostile, accusing the studio of letting down their audience. Most have pointed out that Battlestar Galactica Razor has been available on DVD almost as soon as it aired.
still waiting… and getting progressively more and more annoyed. Getting closer to download time… WAKE UP! For god’s sake, release the stupid thing!!
I dont understand why it is taking so long to release. It has already been two years. Now they are using the writer’s strike as an excuse. I just dont like laziness.
And the studios wonder why people download! all the fan base and they are kicking themselves in the foot.
Yeah, it sucks that the studio is screwing around with the release date for season 3. I already have the set that I got from Amazon.uk. So I paid too much. So what. I wanted to see it (I don’t have cable or satellite)and, if it really blows, I can always re-sell it. If the producers are trying to wring more money out of the dvd release, so be it. The show has to be incredibly expensive to produce and I can’t believe that the broadcast revenues even allow it to break even! By the way, my cheap dvd player is now an all-region player (thanks to an internet sourced hack) and plays PAL format perfectly. Source: Amazon.com
It is little to no wonder that the studios are having a very bad time, while there is a large backlash against the music side of the house, the video side of the houses are just as troubled, and facing the same kind of consumer backlash.
It is fun to note that the entertainment industry has badly reacted to the changes in the delivery of media, for those people wanting to spend good money, and waiting, hacking their DVD players, or resetting their PC drives to rip PAL DVD’s. The studios and the entertainment industry as a whole have sadly let down their customers.
If the above backlash against one simple TV series is any indication, the studios still have a long way to go.
