Microsoft reaches out to yahoo employees that are worried that they are amongst the 1000 people that will be laid off in the next month. A memo/letter from Microsoft global talent acquisition has surfaced on Silicon Alley Insider, with the desire to talk to “talented employees”.
Your name was brought to my attention as someone who may be very knowledgeable in the online business space. I know a lot of people from Yahoo! have been reaching out to us lately because they are nervous about the pending layoffs. I wanted to give you an opportunity to explore Microsoft careers as well. For Microsoft this is a good deal, while the employees might not feel obligated to share information with their new employee, they cannot help but use knowledge that they have previously gained in their new positions. Being able to grab the best of the folks that are being released by Yahoo, Microsoft brings in a lot of new information on how Yahoo works, and what was tried and failed within the Yahoo framework.
Smart for Microsoft to reach out and use the current troubles at Yahoo to increase their staff with people who are familiar with and know about the things that Yahoo has done in the past.
