Undersea Cable cut is claimed as Sabotage

The five telecommunications cables that were cut in the middle east are now being called an act of sabotage by Sami al-Murshed, the spokesman for the International Telecommunication Union. If it was sabotage, you would have thought that someone, anyone, al-qaeda, terrorist du jour would have been all over that one, claiming credit.

Fact, no one we know of has claimed credit for the act, and you know that this one would have been all over the front pages, head line, CNN style breaking news.

Union spokesman Sami al-Murshed, told AFP said that while there was still an ongoing investigation into the incidents it would seem that there was a deliberate act of sabotage. While it was possible that one cable could have been damaged by a ship’s anchor the others were too deep. Besides the chances of five cables being cut within a two week period was unlikely. Additional reading is at SMH.com.au on the subject.

Because of the relative silence in the news media on this one, it is going to be hard to determine what is and what is not sabotage. Which is problematic, is this just the spokesperson saying something, in a sidebar, and not the official line, or was it really sabotage?

Probably will not believe it until it hits the major news outlets.
