It is low tech but might work Yuma thinking of building a moat
With the debacle that is the Eye of Sauron style border security, Yuma Arizona is proposing building a moat around the city to keep the dreaded “illegal immigrants” out. What they probably didn’t think about is that they already have to cross a river, so they can probably swim. This will do nothing to stop the entire cross border system, but could prove great for wildlife.
“The moats that I’ve seen circled the castle and allowed you to protect yourself, and that’s kind of what we’re looking at here,” said Yuma County Sheriff Ralph Ogden, who is backing the project. Source: Yahoo AP
In the hyped world of Web 2.0, startups, and other technology oriented solutions, maybe some low tech solutions might just work here. As stated, the critters would love it because it would restore marshland, but with the water demands in the South West, this might not happen, might not be feasible, as many water consuming people are going to want to keep on drinking water, watering their lawn, and playing in the pool, rather than help Yuma build a moat.
