JuicyCampus gets a subpoena now comes the pain
Unrestricted user comments and content is back in the news today with news that JuicyCampus a free for all of commentary about race, religion, sex, nonsense, and stupidity on American campuses is in the news today. Bringing on the pain is that they are now being investigated by the State of New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act.
The investigation began last month when a student came forward who had been terrorized by posts on the Web site that included her address. Prosecutors have subpoenaed information from JuicyCampus on how it is run, citing concerns about “unconscionable commercial practices.”
“There’s an unbelievable amount of offensive material posted and absolutely no enforcement,” said Milgram, noting insults about students’ appearance, race and sexual history as “just the tip of the iceberg.” Source: AP

Other pain on this one is that while JuicyCampus is busy fighting off its own issues, another site has shown up on the Radar today called juicygossip.com that essentially does the same thing. On line bullying and on line mayhem for want of a better way to put it is always enabled by sites that allow unrestricted user comments. People cannot help being petty at times, or speaking out of other orifices other than their mouths.
The problem is not so much that people are going to be idiots, but the web sites that enable idiocy on the internet, by providing a platform for generic lunacy. This social experiment has been proven so many times now that there is no way anyone can feign surprise, if you give people the ability to make offensive comments where they think they will not be caught, the basest lowest most crass things are going to be said, and people are going to be terrorized by this, especially when their names, addresses and phone numbers are posted in places like these.
