Major Valleywag screw up
Most of the time Valleywag is an amusing place to go, but when they took on Arthur C. Clarke by calling him a pedophile, well you have to wonder what they are really up to. If anything is going to turn off a reader, it is not just getting the story wrong, but basically making up something as dangerous as a pedophilia charge against someone when they are dead.
We won’t link to the article, here is the Google entry (no sense in giving them the page link or any form of addition to their technorati or page rage or media metrix or compete scores on this one).
Very bad Valleywag, which means now that they are taking on dead people, it is still a matter of when not if Valleywag so badly screws up that they take on the living, and that living person decides that there is no other way out than suicide.
Frankly, there needs to be a retraction on this one, and a solid round of beatings for the writer Owen Thomas. While Valleywag might be a gossip rag, this is one reader that will not be coming back. It is one thing to be idiotic, it is another to seriously imperial the estate of a dead person with baseless charges, that are easily disputed and proven wrong.
