Sorry employers must search Facebook and MySpace
It is the only way to know if you are a lunatic or not.
Here is the issue with employers looking through Facebook and MySpace, it is almost a due diligence issue, if we were running a background check thing, I would want to know if someone was looking at a plate of white powdery substance with white powdery substance on their face. I would want to know if they ‘party hardy’ and generally look like raving lunatics.
The image that a person portrays on Facebook or MySpace is part of Reputation and Branding for your own self. If you are an idiot and want to portray that you are a drug using pill popping hard drinking two fisted knuckle dragger, then well, do I want to hire you. For some jobs yes, for many jobs no.
Does anyone want to hire someone in a moment of zietgiest decided to state “fuck man, i’m so pathetic sometimes i’d like to strangle myself. “. Oh yeah, that would be a “great hire”. Lets hire the terminally depressed, they are self reporting that they have issues, as a potential employer I would so want to know this.
Sorry folks, if you can not manage your own image to portray a positive outcome, then you should not be using social networking. This is one of those whiny brat kind of issues.
“When young people put up their personal profiles they are not thinking about job or university applications. Typically, they are simply talking to their mates. Employers or admissions tutors who delve into these places are being highly and inappropriately intrusive. It’s a bit like looking at someone’s diary,” Mr Carr told The Times. Source: The Times
Ok, so we have a nanny country, and no kids don’t think, and to survive they need to start thinking, people judge you on what you look like and what you act like. That is one of the reasons that you go through as many interviews as you do. This is one of the reasons you have to get letters of admittance, this is part of life, it would be nuts to say an employer can not look at a MySpace or Facebook page. If people do not understand about branding and reputation, then they will obviously get into a lot of trouble later on down the road.
