The apple update pushing safari on windows users is back, even if you said no the first time, the second round of updates for your apple software is busy wanting to install itself again. This is after all the hoopla about pushing software that people do not want, it looks like Apple update does not keep track of user preferences. This picture of the update screen was taken yesterday.
The real problem with this is that the Apple Macbook Air was hacked in 2 minutes at the latest Pwn to Own contest. This update presents a very real security threat for people who use this software, yet it looks like Apple update is still pushing the update, and the safari install.
The hack that was used was an undocumented hack, meaning there is no patch for this one, and this is a serious issue for people who are being subjected to the Apple Update.
This is dangerous and irresponsible for Apple to keep on pushing the update, it represents a very real security threat to people’s computers. They need to fix their update system so that people who say “no” to downloading and installing safari can keep their “no” preference.

Hi Dan,
Great stuff…
Have you promoted this blog on Fast Pitch!(.fastpitchnetworking.)? It’s an online business network that has as one of it’s features a way to promote your blog to their audience of small business owners. FP was actually just named Website of The Week by MSNBC’s ‘Your Business’ show for small business owners.
If you’re already on another network (LinkedIn, etc.) - no problem. Fast Pitch! takes a completely different approach. Compare Networks: fastpitchnetworking./comapre.cfm
Keep up the good work!
Tammy
NOTE: We edited this to take out the working links, plus the compare page does not work.
I love responses like this, you get some crap company hawking SEO services that have no bearing on what was being written other than to flog someone’s ego. In this case, ours. Went to go look at fast pitch, yeah its a joke, but thanks tammy!
Unchecking an item in the Software Update list is not and was never meant to be a permanent selection. The list lets you install what you want when you want to. The choice is always yours. Should you want never to install a particular update Apple has provided a mechanism for you to accomplish this.
Any time you decide there is an update you do not want to ever install, hilite the item you do not want in the displayed list of available updates and in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen select Update and drag down to the Ignore Update… item in the displayed menu list.
Well, then install it already and you won’t be bothered until the next update is ready for install. Try it, you’ll like it. That’s a joke. Install it and don’t use it. It won’t do any harm to your drive and takes up very little space.
That is not the whole point though, it is not a matter of clicking something on or off, it is that I am being asked to download something I don’t want, and now it looks like I will be asked to download something I don’t want forever. That is not cool, no matter who you are.
If you aren’t savvy enough to examine your update preferences in the menu and select the Ignore Update option, then you may want to stay off your computer….seriously! This isn’t rocket science.
Sticks, just about fell over laughing, thank you, now that was funny.
With answer like this you have will more readers in future.
And try use your initiative, if you don’t want, don’t install.
This update announcement will disappear in a few days.
BTW why is your blog link to a Mac news site, shouldn’t it be in some MS news site?
AdamC,
Honestly I don’t know why this got linked to a mac blog, but I can’t control who links to me.
This is an interesting topic, when will a person call the bluff on a company, and is this a way for Apple to undermine firefox, and all the other arguments that have been going on over this issue. Let alone what is happening on the corporate side of all this.
Things to think about.
