More Resume tomfoolery

Went through some 300 resumes yesterday to see what cropped up from a job search, and frankly the whole resume job description thing is out of hand. This is one system that needs to be fixed, meaning job descriptions and the resumes that supposedly meet them need to actually meet them. Some examples from yesterdays culling that particularly caught my attention when it comes down to not meeting the job requirements.

Basics of the Job, I need someone with an MBA to do business training, I need someone who is currently working in a company, who is part of the organizational team, and has at least a Department head or better position.

What I got in response.

I work at wal-mart managing the size of the lines at the check out counter but I have an MBA

I am a professional student, never worked in business before but I have an MBA

I am a professional researcher, never stepped foot in a company but I have an MBA and can easily tell others how to run their business.

I have an MBA from this great college in the Caribbean, and I work as a secretary in a family owned business.

While I really wanted someone to go in and be able to talk business, talk to people in the organization, I ended up just hiring someone I already knew who could do the work, do the work well, and someone I already trusted.

It was worth going out and seeing the people who would respond to the job request, but either my job description (which was quite lengthy and talked about what would be actually done) ended up with a cess pool of junk from people who are looking for a job.

Either my job description was totally botched (which is possible given the responses) or the quality of people looking for a job is abysmal. At this point, I am thinking that the whole system is broken, the quality is abysmal, and I need to be better in developing a job description.
