Words of Advice How to Digg a Site

ReadWriteWeb Logo Read Write Web whom we respect and actually read posted yesterday an article on how to properly digg any web site on the internet. With changes to the Digg algorithm, it is pretty much so a one shot deal when submitting. Unlike Stumble upon where you can pretty much so rewrite your entry at will, or leave a review that is searchable in the Stumble upon index, if you do Digg wrong, so much for the hopes of making the Digg home page.

All that said, we’ve noticed some things that don’t work so well on Digg. Any URL that gets submitted has only one chance to try and make it to the front page within the next 24 hours. Whether you’re submitting stories from here or from your other favorite sites, here are some tips that will help your submissions be more successful. Source: RWW

Interestingly enough, the problem with the solution is that in some ways, this is also a way to Game Digg by actually showing interest in what is being written rather than cut and paste from an article like you can on stumble upon. Frankly while RWW might rely on Digg traffic, stumble upon is a better system, better indexing, and a general all the way round better way of getting traffic to your web site. Obviously we have a preference for Stumble upon, Digg requires too much, has too many weird things that happen like the automatic killing of an article on submission.

Stumble upon is also easier, much easier to use than digg, mix, or reddit. Overall though the words hold true for what happens on digg, and as they state that front page exposure is a great way to get traffic, ad clicks, and better sponsors, and yes it does put food on the table. The sad part is that they have to even say anything like providing instructions on how to properly digg an article.

That tells us two things:

Digg users are too freaking stupid to get the interface
Digg has altered their system so much to keep out spammers, marketers, and SEO folks that the interface is no longer intuitive which leads to dumb digg users

Sad that instructions have to posted, in the mean time we have moved on from Digg, mixx, reddit and the rest of it, using systems like stumble upon (easy, intuitive, one button clicking) is how we keep on submitting RWW web articles up that we find interesting, and hopefully that too is putting food on their tables as well.
