Microsoft Walks on the Yahoo Deal

Microsoft say’s Bye Bye to a Yahoo take over.

Probably the biggest news of the weekend, if not the week is that Microsoft has officially bailed on the take over deal with Yahoo.

The true telling of all this will happen when the stock market opens on Monday, to see just what kind of punishment the companies will take when stock holders vote with what they own. We expect yahoo stock to go down, maybe 10 to 20 percent, Microsoft, that stock has been hard to move in any direction but laterally. Maybe Microsoft shareholders will reward the company for this one, maybe they won’t.

Some of the more interesting conversations are of course happening on friendfeed, links here to the scobleizer web site, friend feed, and to mini Microsoft who opines that:

While sanity did not prevail in making this crazy offer, sanity prevailed in not doing whatever it took to make the Yahoo! acquisition happen. Source: Mini-Microsoft

In all, there are going to be many people breathing a sigh of relief on this one, it made sense in some ways, it didn’t make sense in other ways. It was not an ultimate win win if Microsoft had carried on smartly with their take over bid.

Microsoft is an interesting company, but they need to figure out what they want to do with the next generation of the Internet. Microsoft has always had a blind spot when it comes to the Internet.

Of course techmeme is all over this one, so if you want a lot of comments, opinions and other information on this one, check out friend feed and techmeme. In all, for many people, the real influence will happen on Monday, but for right now it is time to “throw the bones” and predict just how interesting Monday is going to be.
