There is something nice when the boss is not completely pissed off that you are walking out the door to go compete with them. With the ever present “non-competes” that we sign here in just about every technical job, the extraordinarily nice note that Duncan Riley is leaving techcrunch for his own blog at Inquisitr written by Michael Arrington is something a lot of Seattle companies should be taking note of. People come, people go, they do this for what ever reason, and when the parting is amicable, it is always best for all.
So why is he leaving? To compete with us, of course. Duncan will shortly announce the launch of Inquisitr, a blog covering the stuff that he is passionate about: pop culture, tech stories and various oddities that he thinks people will find interesting. You can subscribe to Inquisitr in your feed reader via this URL. You can also read Duncan’s personal blog here. Source: Techcrunch
There is something to be said when the parting is good, this is always a good sign that the company you are working for at least cares about you, and is not worried about what you will do next. We all have companies that we have worked for and done things for, that made outrageous offers at the end of the day to try to keep you. Sometimes is is just best to walk away friends.
The coolest part is that there is a plug for the new blog, Inquisitr right below the we will miss you statement. Plus, by giving the plug, there is some instant linking going on to Duncan’s new blog, meaning he gets his technorati, page rank, and quick traffic boost right off the bat. Very nicely done.
Ok that is good leadership, others with non-competes please take note of this.
