If only the Apple Uber Tablet could be true
If only the rumors this morning about the dual sided apple Uber tablet could be true, or if it is true wait for it, the lines will be around the corner again when and if it goes live. The problem with rumors, or equipment that is just not market ready is the post news let down that you are not going to get one very soon if at all. Like the table top system from Microsoft, saw it, wanted it for the living room, didn’t care about cost, can’t get one, you bastards.
Now comes the rumor of the Apple Uber Tablet, a tablet PC so elegant, and so spot on that one has to wonder why no one has built one yet, and why can’t I have one now, right here in the living room, don’t care about costs, can’t get one now, you bastards.
So what’s the bottom line? Well, could we see tablet-notebook hybrids that were lighter and better suited to e-book reading than Microsoft’s original Tablet PC concept? And maybe more rugged and cheaper to produce in the long run, with a simpler mechanical side? And more convenient to use? No need to swivel the screen around? Plus, you can check your e-mail when the clamshell is shut? A handy little wrinkle to use in lines at the airport, no? Source: Teleread.org
Frankly, this is a great idea, and this might just be the excuse I need to get new gear (although my apple usage is only with the IPod at this point, apple gear is expensive in relationship to its PC counterparts), and maybe just maybe try out the apple. Although I would pretty much so assume that the first month with an Apple will be nothing but a long string of foul language like it was with Vista and Microsoft Office, but then maybe not.
I know when I went to the apple store last, and was seriously looking at a MacBook, I talked with the sales person and told them how I used a computer, and he showed me how to set up the Apple MacBook for how I use a computer, try to get that kind of customer service at Best Buy or Dell. Maybe it is time for me to stand in line if Apple makes this puppy, along with the rest of the Apple fan boys and girls.

A dual-sided tablet would need 2 screens, 2 digitizers, etc. That’s going to add quite a bit to the size and cost. Is it really worth it just so you don’t have to swivel the screen around? If you just want it to check email there are MS tablets with the SideShow feature.
Lightweight tablets will become more and more common as SSDs and low power processors increase the bang you can get from a machine w/o a big honking battery.
