Photosynth Crashes due to popularity

Can anyone remember when something Microsoft made drew enough attention to crash a server at Microsoft? Well Photosynth seems to have hit the mark this time, as the good folks over at Photosynth are reporting that due to popular demand, we all crashed their servers due to demand.

We have been absolutely overwhelmed by demand, and have turned Photosynth.com into a special static/read-only mode for the moment. The team is hard at work adding capacity and getting the full site back online. We’ve been under incredible demand since we released just over 12 hours ago. With everyone waking up around the world traffic has been on a steady ramp up since that release and has far exceeded even our most optimistic expectations. Source: photosynth blog

Got to admit, it has been a long time, at least since I can remember that a non-video game product took off like this, not even popfly which is very cool did as good as this.

Photosynth

What is an even more interesting question, pent up demand for 3D pictures? Are we ready for holograms yet?
