Hitting the Nail on the Head web 2 0 for the classroom
Image via Wikipedia There is nothing better than a healthy debate to keep you interested in how to solve a problem about how to improve the quality of education. One of the things that I have discussed in the past is how to bring about and use Web 2.0 to facilitate communications between student and teacher.
This is the first article I wrote on this covering what is the best approach, and in an excellent commentary, Michael Ellerbeck has looked at the idea through his own viewpoint, and covered some excellent territory.
As educators, instructors, teachers, education management how we approach the problems, is somewhat of how those problems will be addressed. Mike points out that the 55 year old will have a harder time with adopting technology than the 19 year old who grew up with it. This holds somewhat universally true over time, as we get older our ability to adapt to change becomes harder and harder. The other problem is signal to noise, how do we increase good information and dump bad information.
Mike also points out that the state of educational software, what we use as our main classrooms on line is not appropriate, but there are systems out there, like podcasting, and systems like Edmodo that allows for micro blogging in the classroom, but these are dependent upon everyone being there and using those tools. In a mixed age class, where people range from 18 to 65, people tend to fall back on what they are comfortable with, not necessarily what is needed to deliver a great educational experience.
What other thoughts center on the idea of bringing technology into the classroom? If you have great ideas and want to work with instructors and educational leaders across the USA, check out social campus, and throw your ideas at other instructors who are debating the issues, and trying to work out ways to bring technology into the classroom.
