Crazy Thought about Apple and its touch technology
With all the speculation that is happening about the September 9th special media event, there has been some interesting discussion on what it could be all about. The special event seems to focus on the new IPods just in time for Christmas, and with the “buy a Mac get stuff free” specials that are going on to reduce inventory of the older 8 Gig IPod Touches, that makes sense.
But as I get used to my new Apple Mac book, and otherwise learn how to use it for what I want to use it for, a thought becomes stunningly apparent. What would be an excellent marriage of technology, function, form, and Apple’s ability to just make some great technology that seems to resonate with people, and what they want to do.
While Apple is busy proving touch technology, and rumors of an Apple Uber Tablet, with proven touch screen technology from the Iphone and IPod Touch, wouldn’t it be great to see a marriage of the technologies when it comes to a Laptop or a Tablet. This makes for an interesting an intriguing thought along the way. What if Apple used all their proven technology to make something wonderful, that just about everyone would want as a tablet with touch screen and elements of the table top computing from Microsoft?
While there is nothing to prove the thought, this is more of a logical conclusion, where something would be very cool, and might in some ways be interesting to see if they could take elements of Microsoft’s table top PC, a tablet with a touch screen, ability to blue tooth to a camera in the same way that the table computer works, well that would be a computer to seriously drool over.
But then this might be one of those ideas that is far out in left field, but if you take all the information that is out there, and while much of this is logic jumping, wouldn’t it be cool if Apple, indeed any computer manufacturer could do this?

Are you aware that Surface is a 3-camera system and a very different technology that doesn’t actually use touch?
Surface can do things that touch and multi-touch can never do… but it will never be portable.
Google Jeff Han to see what Multi-touch (real multi-touch) can do.
Apple is ahead of MS on this one (for now).
…are you also aware that Apple has been patenting many of it’s multi-touch gestures and interface elements since 2004? (Only a few of them have shown up in the iPhone and iPod Touch).
Here are some of the newest:

Ok, took the bait and looked, where can I get one? I would love to have technology that worked liked that. Although if we could make multi-touch portable, that would be a great way to integrate video games, and other systems. I would lay odds that some lab boffin is working on that solution. Might not see it tomorrow, but nothing wrong with thinking about it.
With any luck, kids might see it.
Thanks for the heads up on Jeff Han, might end up as a blog entry, you get full credit.
