A thought on moderation and taking social networks at your own pace

One of the great things about social media is that you can take it at your own pace. You do not need to daily pay attention to everything that is going on the internet. That would be like sitting down and watching MSNBC, FOX, and CNN all day every day for a week, at the end of the week you would be insane. Much the same with social networking, if you try to keep track of the major flow of information every day that is generated, then you will also go insane.

The key to keeping your head above water with social networking is to take it at your own pace, we all learn differently, and we all understand information at different paces. In some cases, we might not understand what is being said and never understand it. You will be exposed to more information today than a person in 1830 was exposed to in their entire lives. Scale at your own pace and your experience will go so much better. If you can only manage to follow one or two people, make them the thought leaders in that group. Then as you have time explore what everyone else is saying do it, if you do not have time, do not sweat it.

Too many people are getting wrapped up thinking that they have to follow everyone to be popular, it has always been better when you follow your own drummer, and do things your own way. This holds true in social media as well.
