Seattle PI 2Image by Cara_VSAngel via FlickrA Seattle hallmark, the Seattle PI has announced that they are up for sale tonight, meaning Seattle will become a one paper town, and even then that does not mean that the Seattle Times is in any better condition overall.

Of course this hit the street yesterday as rumor yet today this is the hot news right now, no one is confirming anything, but what is interesting is that they are talking about being an on line only newspaper, which would follow in line with major papers like the Christian Science Monitor that made the same change earlier in 2008. The changing face of news hits home, and if they go on line only that will be one of the biggest changes that news in Seattle has dealt with in a long time. The last big news item was John Cook and Todd Bishop leaving to start their own major web site, Techflash.

The Seattle PI has been a Seattle institution for a very long time, but with the writing on the wall, a company losing money right and left, as well as the continuing economic troubles, this is probably one of the only moves left for the paper. At least we will not lose the on line presence, but how the Seattle PI changes, expect more papers to do the same thing.
