You would not know that there is a recession on by the amount of work that folks are doing right now. While many of us have tapered off and robert scoble has stripped the CSS out from under his web site, there has been so much happening that it at times can seem like there is no time to blog.
Lately I have been having a great time over on FriendFeed, and probably spending too much time over there rather than writing one off blog entries that feature for free mind you, poor grammar, incoherent thoughts, and sometimes abet far too rarely a glimmer of humor and wit. But there are some great things going on, mostly that as my project winds down to a close we will have the infrastructure of a social networking system where I work. This is a huge step, and one that is going to be very cool when we get it up and running.
I have been following Steve Hodson and his attempt at rebranding, he should be launching soon (see even got the name right this time) and I will be very interested in seeing what his ranks/audience do. Mostly because he is the closest I am going to come to seeing someone else do a major launch about the same time I am doing it. What ever the take is on his, I’ll be able to learn from what is happening on his site.
Some of the things I am missing though is that Louis Gray and Co (Mike et al) have not been blogging (at least I am not getting notified of a new blog entry) since the 14th, that is making me think that we are all honking busy doing great things for the people we work with.
Corvida who is probably one of the best people I have read out there in the blogosphere has a major new promotion and this is worth noting. She has been slowly building up her public face, going to increasingly difficult and interesting jobs in Blogging. If you are thinking of a career in blogging Corvida is going to make a great case study, because she is nothing but one long tail of success. She is “doing it right” and “doing it well”, go say hello, follow her on FriendFeed and other systems. She is worth listening to and paying attention to.
FriendFeed has a new room (where I have been hanging out and promising to post 3 new series covers from my bookstore every morning) called Comic Book Goodness. If you are into comic books, then this is one place to hang out. I am spending far too much time there, but I have 7000 covers, this is going to take a while.
Those are the big events of the week, new places to go, new person to meet, new people to ping on because they are not making great content. You also might want to check out Profy this week, Svetlana Gladkova has a great article on marketing messages versus having a conversation. This is some of her better work. Hopefully I will be posting a powerpoint next week on how we built out our social networking system, the fun part is that it is all based in the cloud, there isn’t a server on the lot. We are dropping audio, video, VTC (coming soon), open seminars, and other great things under the moniker “Just go learn something” which hopefully has not been trade marked by anyone yet. This has been a challenging and fun project, it will take a while to document just what we did, how we did it and the decisions we made to get to where we are at.

Dan, that’s an excellent observation that people really seem to have less time for blogging with everyone focusing on the jobs we do for someone or some paid-for projects we work on for ourselves – and I guess this is exactly the recession showing itself: we have to choose between money and the joy of blogging for the sake of blogging itself more and more frequently.
P.S. And thank you for the mention, very glad you have enjoyed my marketing vs. conversation piece.
