This is the reason why I work here; this week my boss wants us to help spend his money to give direct grants to needy students so that they can finish their degree. In a world where corporate boards and CEO’s are being tagged for not paying attention to anything other than their bottom line, having your CEO and Board contribute to their own customers (read students) welfare is amazing. And that is one of the reasons why I have the best job in the world. I totally love my job, and no I am not just saying that, I work in a place where the students matter all the time. We are here to help them, that is our job, that is our mission, that is why we exist.

While the video is intended to generate the standard heart string response, the idea of actually helping students is one of the reasons that drew me to working where I work. And what is said in the video is true, we do this every day. Education is one of the best things you can do at any time, either as a student or as a teacher. So watch the video, let me know what you think.

The best part is that along with the scholarship program, we are really reaching out to folks who have been hammered by the recent recession. They were saying that there is a 10% unemployment rate right now in Washington, so every bit helps.

If you feel like it, help me spend my bosses’ money, because he will dollar match up to 25K. Someone show me a CEO and Board anywhere else on this planet that will personally dollar match to help out students and I’ll donate there and talk about them too. When we are dealing with the corporate governance fiasco’s and quarter to quarter profits, educational draw downs at the community and public college level, it is so cool to work for a company that still puts students first.
