Danielle Morrill over at Seattle 2.0 tweeted that Seattle 2.0 live has reached 3500 unique viewers, and that is a great thing for what is rapidly becoming one of the must follow (if it is not already) views into the Seattle 2.0 startup scene.
Danielle posts how they managed to accomplish this on the Seattle 2.0 blog. Which is an interesting use of free open source software and the apple computer system to make sure that they are producing high quality video output for their UStream Channel.
The show is anchored by myself and Brian Westbrook. Our setup varies, but in its simplest incarnation we arrive at events armed with the on-board camera for a Mac (Brian’s Air or my MacBook Pro) and our iPhones (to tweet out links and quotes during the event). Extension cords, microphones to hook into soundboards, etc. are kept on hand, often in Brian’s “bag-o-magical-gadgets”. We use CamTwist (which is free and runs on the Mac OSX) to add the video effects such as text, RSS feeds, graphics, etc. Source: Seattle 2.0
The good part is that this is giving me ideas on how we can best present video from my own programs into the rest of the world. While I have played around with Youtube, and we have a Blip.TV channel, there are always ways to improve the user experience and see what can be done with the systems and equipment we have at hand. They are planning on streaming the Seattle 2.0 awards on Thursday, and we will be there (hopefully we get a great table) covering the event on Twitter and on Friend Feed to go along with the rest of the multi-media efforts that are going to be going on.
Seattle 2.0 is a major resource for great Seattle startup news, along with Techflash, and sometimes myself, there is some awesome coverage of the scene. It is well worth checking out. And congrats on the UStream stats, that is simply wonderful.
