Tonight is one of the big gala events for Seattle Startups, the Seattle 2.0 awards. In a world where financing, VC, Angel Funding is hard to get, tonight is a watershed moment in Seattle as a startup community, tonight we celebrate those that have a great product, and are not only surviving, but thriving in Web 2.0.

Live coverage of the event can be found right here on this URL at 5:30PM PST, 8:30PM EST and is going to be worth watching. The live streaming event is trying to beat a challenge by Jason Calcanis by hitting over 600 live visitors during the event, so if you have time tonight, tune into the channel and find out who are the voted best startups in Seattle.

There is even a twitter hashtag for this one, #seattleawards so if you are following the event, you can follow the multiple people who will be there as journalists. I’ll be there as a journalist tonight, as well as representing where I work, as we have taken the entire entrepreneurial spirit into our technology program.

The event schedule for tonight is:

5:30: Live broadcast begins with Danielle Morrill and Brian M. Westbrook
6:00: Opening to attendees: Networking, drinks and appetizers
7:00: Ceremony starts
8:00: Ceremony ends, cocktail reception, startups demos, and fun.
8:30: Morphis Simulator opens

The “Getting the most from the Seattle 2.0 awards” is well worth reading if you are going tonight. The event is sold out, so you will have to follow the live streaming broadcast online. The sponsors of the event have been wonderful in providing a lot of support for the awards ceremony.

The event promises to be very cool for people who follow the startup scene, are interested in starting a company in the context of the current environment, and a great demonstration of some of the winning ideas that have been perking around Seattle for a while. Seattle is a great place to start a company, there is a vibrant support community, a good round of nationally and locally known bloggers that will help you get the word out, as well as VC, Angel, MIT Venture Lab groups, and other support systems to not only help you focus your idea, but give you all the support you will need. Having a company is not easy, it is a lot of work, and it is the support communities that will help you become more successful. If anything, with all the people I have met in the startup community, it is the support you get from others that helps you become successful as much as having the great idea.

Join us tonight, I’ll be live blogging and live tweeting the event @techwag, posting pictures in the morning, and otherwise having a great night at the Seattle 2.0 awards.
