In the final stages of a social networking plan for my college, and gave the executive presentation on why we want to do this. Some interesting things happened during the briefing, but here is the briefing, story after the jump.
The interesting things that happened during the meeting centered around Google, interviews, and blogging. One of the people in the audience had noticed that if you google search for “CityU” we were popping in the number one position in google for the first time. In the fifth position was the blog interview with Curious Office that I had done earlier in the week.
Being able to show that blog entries could change google PR made a huge difference in the presentation and to demonstrate the effectiveness of social media, blogs, and other accounts that we have online. It was that random expression, and being able to show that there was a positive influence within the internet for all the limited social networking that we have done to date was the most powerful part of the presentation.
While the presentation was good, it was the live demo of Google that really showed that social networking works, and helps expand the options and choices that people find when they are searching. Later on after the meeting I found that Yahoo and Live search engines also had responded positively to what we have been able to do.
Sometimes it is the extraordinary events and the simple things that can help managers work out the difficulties and the issues when dealing with social media. Enjoy the slide show, let me know what you think.
